With less than a month left of summer, take the time to get out and enjoy it! Before you know it we'll have to exercise in multiple layers of clothing, yuck. Also, take advantage of the summer time foods, like berries! Get your friends and family involved and take some fun summer photos :) Tans fade but memories never do!!!!

Happy Friday! Fridays are great but sometimes it takes a little extra push to get going in the morning. As you see below Pigs was not in the mood for a walk this am! The only way I could get her moving was to take off her leash and let her think she was in charge of her walk. I completely understand, I am not much of a morning person and I get fairly cranky when someone is telling me to get moving!! Such a stubborn pair :) After our walk, I took Pigs back inside and decided to go for a short run. I'm not sure how far I ran but I know it was nothing crazy. I ran for about 20 minutes then headed inside for a mini living room yoga session. I love when I'm the only one home and my living room can become my personal yoga studio. Unlike most yoga studios though, I crank the music really loud as I am so musically motivated. Good music makes my workouts fly by :) If you have peeked at my goals you will see that one of them is to be able to complete a Yoga Pike Press Handstand. I have the headstand and shoulder stand down, and recently I have gotten the hang of a forearm balance. I can only hold it for about 10 or so seconds but its coming along nicely. It is such an awesome feeling to just hang out upside down. You feel every muscle having to work together to keep you upright. Can't wait until I can spend minutes in this pose. After my workout it was time for some breakfast. I decided to make an omelet with herb goat cheese and tomatoes. I really wish I had some spinach but all we had was lettuce. This made me start thinking about why I even buy lettuce instead of spinach. Spinach is so much more versatile and SO much better for you. Lettuce is good for a sandwich and a salad while spinach can also be added to smoothies, omelets, pasta dishes and sautéed with garlic and olive oil can serve as a great side dish. Check out all of the health benefits that spinach has to offer! To go with my breakfast I made some whole wheat toast and coffee. My new favorite thing is to add cinnamon to the coffee grinds to add some flavor. This way I don't have to add sugar or flavored creamer to my coffee. I just add a little almond milk and I'm good to go. The rest of my morning was filled with a couple of personal training clients. I am having so much fun with my current clients! I love seeing them progress and get stronger. Personal training is a challenging job but it is also extremely rewarding to see changes being made. I hope my year is filled with many more of these rewarding moments. Goals for the weekend: Be active, Eat fresh, and Have fun!!
As 2012 wrapped up, I took a look back at my goals for last year. Overall, I did alright considering the many changes that occurred in my life in 2012. But it is definitely time to freshen up the list. 2013, What will you bring? After a long 2012, I am so ready to settle into 2013 a get a good rhythm going. Cowboy Chicken Fajitas with Quinoa I bought ingredients to make Slow Cooker Chicken Fajitas, but was in a hurry to make dinner and decided to just experiment. I threw the ingredients into my Wok and seasoned accordingly. If you're not comfortable just throwing spices into a meal, the first step is to start smelling your spices! When you are cooking a meal with a recipe pay attention to the smell of each spice and start to try and recognize what that spice does to the meal. For example, I always noticed that Cumin was in all of my chili recipes (its actually in most chili powders). I soon recognized that it helped to create a smoky taste. The more you experiment and learn about the spices, the easier it becomes to throw them together. I had this meal on two separate occasions. The first night I had it without any grains and topped it with fresh tomatoes and avocado. The second night, my brother was returning home from a SUBU workout so I made some quinoa to fill out the meal a little more. Both ways were great, but I think I enjoyed it with the quinoa better :) Hope everyone is off to a great new year! Have a great weekend :)
You are going to hear it many times in the next couple of days, "Happy New Year!", but how do we make sure it is a Happy New Year? I have been thinking about it for a while thanks to the book I've been reading, The Happiness Project. As a result, I have made my own mini Happiness Project for 2013! If you haven't heard of, or read The Happiness Project, Gretchen Rubin decides to spend a year focusing on the the things that really matter. She has a theme for each month of the year and focuses on making small changes that really add up. Examples include, Boosting Energy, Lightening Up, Making Time for Friends, Pursuing a Passion, and Paying Attention. My mini challenge, will have focuses on my blog, finances, decluttering my life, trying to become a morning person, and getting my tail back into SUBU on a regular basis. Even if you are not in need of full-on or a mini Happiness Project, check out these tips I ran across on one of my favorite websites, Refinery29.com, How To Be Deeply, Blissfully Happy in 2013. Groceries and LunchThis week I am going to try two new crockpot recipes from Savingyoudinero.com, Hawaiian Chicken and Chicken Fajitas. Lunch today was tuna salad with lemon juice and olive oil dressing, with a side of carrots and greek yogurt dip! Surprisingly filling!! Im off to walk pigs and start getting ready for this evenings festivities. Hope you all have a Fabulous and Happy New Year! How was your Friday night? Ryan and I went to SUBU, did 7 minutes of Burpees (I did 72 and Ryan did 91!!), went to Outback and split a steak, then came home and passed out. Man we're getting old :) This morning Ryan climbed into bed and told me to get up cause it was already 11am. I perked up and took at look at the clock, it was not even 10am. What a dork! Either way, it was enough to get me up out of bed. We tidied up the house and then headed to Lowes. Ryan is making some more ploy-boxes and making me some yoga blocks. I had to get a new paint brush to finish my chair. *Tip - after you clean a paint brush, store it in a plastics band with rubber bands around it. This will help to keep it from crusting up. After Lowes, Ryan cut some wood to make my yoga blocks and then I glued and clamped them together. After they dry I will sand them down. I then added a coat of lacquer to my chair. I have to wait 2 hours, lightly sand it and then do this cycle 2 more times. I will let you know how they turn out! For the rest of the afternoon I am going to do some homework for my Sport Yoga certification. I have to finish an essay and take a test. I also plan on finding a couple of recipes for this week. I want to make something good for breakfasts this week, maybe a banana bread or some muffins. Off to Pinterest I go! I'll let you know what I pick. The Eels Saturday Morning is a great song to get you motivated to get your chores done! Rachel Yamagata's Saturday Morning is good for that mellow, pancake making morning! Enjoy!! |
